I was excited to hear that Shepard Fairey would be doing his first solo NYC in 5 years at the Jacob Lewis gallery in Chelsea. To quote the artist: “For this show I’ve been focusing on the root causes of corruption and corporate favoritism, looking at the disproportionate influence the fossil fuel companies have as well as the current campaign finance structure that makes that power so manipulative within our political system.”
I myself try not to look too deep into things. If I like it, I like it. I’m not the kind of person who stands in a room full of artwork & act is if I’m having a life changing conversion on the true meaning of a certain image nor the artist’s hidden message. I have always been a fan of Shepard’s work (even before Exit Through the Gift Shop) so it was nice to see his stuff first hand. At the end the reception, he stuck around to take pictures, sign some autographs and have in depth conversations with his fans even though some members of his crew were pretty adamant about getting him to leave.
